Bulk Items Disposal within the Health Sciences Centre
If you need to dispose of bulky items or a large number of items in the Health Sciences Centre, please see below. For any other campus buildings please contact Facility Services Customer Service. Do not place furniture or any type of equipment or waste in hallways unless a request to remove it has been submitted.
You may drop-off batteries for disposal at Arthur N. Bourns Building, ABB-133 Lab Stores.
Alternatively, you may request a designated battery collection pail supplied by Hamilton Health Sciences. Please note that spent batteries must go into the designated pail and are not to be disposed of into a regular waste or recycling stream.
Please contact housekeeping, Crothall Healthcare, at (905) 521-2100 ext. 73805 to request a pail or to exchange a full pail.
Cardboard boxes are picked up on a regular basis from the waste holding areas for recycling. However, if you have bulk delivery of items, you must ensure the company that delivers and unpacks the equipment takes away the packaging, including cardboard.
Large pieces of cardboard will not be collected from the waste holding areas.
Request pick up by emailing the Furniture Move & Disposal Request Form to furnituremovesmcmaster@hhsc.ca and arrangements will be made to dispose of this equipment in an environmentally friendly way. Alternatively, you may place unwanted electronic equipment in the e-waste disposal bin located in the MDCL loading dock.
For disposal of items, please complete the Furniture Move & Disposal Request Form (PDF) and email it to furnituremovesmcmaster@hhsc.ca. Please allow one to two weeks’ notice. When planning a purge of your area or disposing of items, please plan ahead and do not leave items in hallways. This is against fire code and fines from the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal may apply.
Furniture moves will pick up your item(s) and ensure it gets to the proper area or disposal bin. Due to an increase in bin and waste management costs, there is a $20.00 fee charged to departments/areas for disposal of larger waste items.
If you need disposal of a large number of items, please submit a service request to FHS Corporate Services. We will work with you to contract an external moving company.
Please submit a work request to Hamilton Health Sciences Engineering through Maintenance Connection to remove the freon from the freezer and dispose of the unit. For assistance or more information on Maintenance Connection, please visit our website page.
All glass items for disposal must be rinsed out and placed in a cardboard box, labelled “glass” or “broken glass”.
Request pick up by emailing the Furniture Move & Disposal Request Form to furnituremovesmcmaster@hhsc.ca or place the properly labelled box in the nearest waste holding area.
